Maury Wills is on his way to breaking Ty Cobb’s single season stolen-base record of 96. But this summer another legend is born. Scotty Smalls has just moved to The Valley and is in search of some friends to hang out with for the summer. Scotty has never picked up a baseball in his life, and gets more than he bargained for when he meets a goofy group of baseball players from the neighborhood. The make-shift team plays baseball all day, everyday under the hot summer sun. “Smalls” is eventually accepted as one of the group’s own after Benny Rodriguez takes him under his wing, but manages to get himself into the biggest pickle of his life when he attempts to save the game after the group’s only baseball disappears over the fence for a home run. Benny once again comes to the rescue, becoming a neighborhood legend by facing his fears and getting back a Babe Ruth autographed baseball from the teeth of “The Beast.”

Gil isn’t just the average fan, he played the game. Gil becomes obsessed when the Giants acquire free agent outfielder Bobby Rayburn (Wesley Snipes) believing that the acquisition puts the Giants over the top, making them a contender in the National League. However Rayburn struggles terribly after his injury in the season-opener, and the Giants suffer right along with him. Gil is convinced that Bobby isn’t hitting because Latin outfielder, Juan Primo (Benicio del Toro) won’t give up his number 11 jersey to Bobby. Gil is bitter over losing his family and job, and hangs on to the one thing he cares about, baseball. He is determined to do anything to get Rayburn and the Giants back on track.

Rocky Balboa, played by Sylvester Stallone, is a semi-pro boxer who is given the opportunity to fight for the World Heavyweight Championship against Apollo Creed, the defending undefeated heavyweight champion of the world. The “Italian Stallion” shocks everyone except himself by taking Apollo Creed the full 15 rounds before losing by split-decision. Nevertheless, Rocky is triumphant in his goal of taking Creed the distance and instantly becomes an American legend. Rocky is the ultimate underdog story, and a timeless classic whose theme song still blasts over stadiums sound systems across the country as a never-say-die anthem of hope and the American dream.

Hundreds of thousands of men enter into the armed forces, including many Major League Baseball players. At home, Major League Baseball owners have decided to form a women’s league to keep baseball in the public eye. Ernie Capadino (Jon Lovitz) arrives on a small dairy farm in Oregon to recruit catcher Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis). Dottie at first refuses, but later agrees to join the league as long as her sister Kit (Lori Petty) is accepted into the league as well. The pair head to Chicago for tryouts where they are assigned to the Rockford Peaches, with teammates Doris Murphy (Rosie O’Donnell) and Mae Mordabito (Madonna). Former baseball great Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks) , is the manger of the team, and couldn’t be less interested in the team, that is until the team begins to win, drawing crowds and media attention from across the country. Dottie shines both at the plate and behind it, with her good looks, power bat, and solid defense. A rivalry soon develops between siblings Dottie and Kit, eventually leading to Kit being traded. The pair inevitably meet in the championship game. This time Kit steals the spotlight, scoring the game winning run. The league is a huge success, and continues on for many years.
